Audax riders have a better day

Last Saturday was an important winter cycling day for some local cyclists, with the “Norfolk Nips 3” 103.5km Audax. Velo Club Baracchi members John Thompson, Mike Rainton Steve Cone and Liam Gentry rode, as did local rider Denis Glasscock. The start and finish was at Hellesdon.  The ride progressed to the information control at Brisley […]

Reliability ride riders reliable

The reliability trial organised by John Thompson for Velo Club Baracchi attracted a wide entry of riders and all enjoyed their day. Those riding included Velo Club Baracchi members, but also others who had travelled from Ipswich and Wymondham. These pre-season events are designed to test and improve fitness but are also treated as social […]

Training, reliability and also what’s happening in Bungay (?)

Velo Club Baracchi’s programme of winter rides is attracting good attendance and last Sunday’s 9am ride from Cotmer Road was especially popular. Seven riders took part in this ride and took a circular route via Halesworth and Mendham towards Harleston and back along the Waveney Valley. The lure of the Bungay café was irresistible […]

Womack foiled in the CC Breckland New Year Ten

Chris Womack of Velo Club Baracchi was unlucky in his New Year’s Day time trial ride in the CC Breckland event. All started badly and continued in that vein, with mechanical problems. Womack was 17 seconds late at the start and missed his slot.  Once under way his saddle tilted forward and as a result […]

Looking forward to the New Year

Velo Club Baracchi riders are looking forward with enthusiasm to the new season’s competition. For some this will start with their own pattern of training and club runs.  Others will look forward to the early Spring reliability trials. John Thompson has arranged two of these for VC Baracchi from the Oulton Community Centre. The 50-mile […]

Santas cyclo-cross in Broome Heath Scramble

Velo Club Baracchi’s second-claim member Tim Bonnett rode the Broome Heath Scramble in a Santa Claus outfit over his Iceni Velo club kit. So did Ben Nicholson, another Iceni Velo rider with Lowestoft roots and together they added a big splash of colour to the racing. This event, previously staged by VCB, was well run […]

Three intrepid VC Baracchi Auxax riders set forth

Three Velo Club Baracchi riders, Mike Rainton, Steve Cone and John Thompson, tackled the 104km Norfolk Nips 2 Audax ride. The weather was cold and the roads were quite icy in places, so riders had to take extra care despite the sunny morning. Even so, a number of spills occurred, including one where Thompson had […]

A quiet time but watch out for Womack!

The break from cycling competition continues in the run-up to the New Year and Velo Club Baracchi riders are out training. The Sunday 9am rides are proving to be a popular alternative to the 8.30am rides for those who want to go further and possibly faster.  Both are from the Cotmer Road roundabout. Last week’s […]

More about the Chairman’s breakfast

After the Velo Club Baracchi annual presentation evening reported last week a party of the club’s riders and one or two guests set off on the “Chairman’s Breakfast” ride. Though a few of the club’s riders maintained their training schedule, the riders who chose to accompany the chairman Brian Boxall on this breakfast ride put […]

Details of the Velo Club Baracchi prize presentation

Members of Velo Club Baracchi voted Liam Gentry the club’s “Rider of the Year” and he received the trophy at the club’s annual presentation evening. Three other members with outstanding achievements were nominated, but this popular win reflected Gentry’s outstanding performances in road racing, time trials and duathlon and his new club time trial records […]

VC Baracchi chairman praises riders

At the VC Baracchi annual meeting the club chairman Brian Boxall described the year’s results as excellent. He paid tribute to the all-round success of Liam Gentry in road racing and open time trials.  He was a race winner in both and had beaten many of the club’s records. He also complimented other members on […]

Club riders gear up for training and presentation night

For local road racing and time trial cyclists the season has ended and the emphasis turns to recreational riding and training. Many of the Velo Club Baracchi members have their own training regimes and already have the next racing season in mind. The club is hoping to maintain its Sunday 8.30am club runs from the […]

Extra! Mike almost joins the Red Arrows

Actually, the nearest Mike Rainton got to joining them was by taking part in the last leg of the coast-to-coast charity ride by RAF personnel in aid of the Jon Egging Trust and two other charities.

Hawkes flies to win

Nicki Hawkes of Velo Club Baracchi won the women’s category and Chris Womack rode a personal best in the East Anglian CC 10-mile open time trial at Earsham.
