Lucas He fifth overall and top junior in Dap CC 10

Riding in the inaugural DAP CC 10-mile open time trial organised by Mark Richards, VC Baracchi rider Lucas He was fifth-fastest and the top junior with 21:08.

Other VCB riders had strong rides: Paul Hayward 22:47, Mark Saunders 23:11, Stuart Chase 24:22, Chris Womack 25:04, Paul Reed 25:08 and Richard Allen 29:13.

The top ride was by Matthew Senter of Team VeloVelocity in 19:41, closely matched by team-mates Ben Stancombe 20:10 and Stuart Fairweather 20:12. The organiser, Richards, came fourth in 20:32.

Fastest lady was Kay Burgess of Team VeloVelocity in 24:07 Terry Garlinge of Team Vision Racing – Silverhook won the veteran prize by beating his age-related standard by five minutes and eight seconds.

The top tandem ride was by Gary Pamment and Barry McDonald of 3T-Racing in 20:40.

Sunday’s Godric Cc open 25 was plagued by the rain that had been forecast, which started relatively light but was often quite heavy during the event.

A majority of those entered elected not to ride but those who took part seemed to take a mysterious enjoyment from it, returning to the HQ completely drenched, as were some of the marshals and timekeepers.

VCB junior rider Lucas He excelled again with 56:17 for third place overall, with Hayward on 1-01:31, Paul Wright 1-03:19 and Alex He 1-05:09. It appears that VCB will have won the team prize.

Harley Matthews of DAP CC won in 54:30 with Stuart Fairweather second in 54:50. Sarah Kelman of St Ives CC was top lady rider with 1-09:10.

VCB veterans John Swanbury (71) and Ali Banks (63) elected on Saturday to have a go at the VTTA (East Anglian) 30-mile time trial on the A11 and A14 roads in the Newmarket area, also known as the Leo 30.

They were pleased they did, as their time of 1-04:36 will enable them to claim a national age record in the veteran annals of the VTTA and also incidentally a club record.

The riders of the faster tandems were younger, but John Iszatt and Dean Lubin of Team Vision Racing – Silverhook will also lay claim to their national age record of 57:40 at ages 59 and 49.  Second tandem was the even younger Shaftesbury CC team of Kevin and Martin Baumber (58:21).

The solo event did not include any riders from this area but was well attended despite some minor rain and the organiser summarised it as the fastest 30 ever, with 20 riders going under the hour and 7 competition records falling, with many other national/group age & club records being broken.

Stuart Travis of Team Bottrill won with a new competition record of 53:44.
