A quiet week with a bit of frost

Velo Club Baracchi riders ventured out after most of the overnight frost had melted on Sunday, though there were still some isolated icy patches capable of catching them out.

Quite a few riders were out in small groups and one rider had a spill but was unhurt.

One of those taking part was Mike Bretton, pictured while waiting for another rider to fix a puncture. He took part in the previous reliability ride but was not mentioned in the report.

The main roads were clear and potentially safer because of salting, but not nearly as pleasant as the country lanes from other points of view.

John Thompson was on a mission of his own. He rode via Rumburgh, Metfield, Fressingfield and Eye to Thornham Magna, where I had roast and dessert.

After lunch he rode via Thorndon to Worlingworth, where he spent some time making notes for his future audax rides, before riding home via Dennington. Peasenhall, Walpole, Halesworth and Uggeshall, around 75 miles in all.

The VCB 100-km reliability rides are on Sunday of next week, February 1.  Again the start and finish is the Oulton Community Centre – 4.5 hours at 8.30am, 4 hours at 9am, 3.5 hours at 9.30am.
