Club run in the sun

The Velo Club Baracchi club run at 8.30am from the Cotmer Road roundabout was very well attended on Sunday.

At Stoven

In bright sunshine about a dozen cyclists set off, first to Halesworth and then to Dunwich via Peasenhall and Saxmundam.

The lads

After refreshments in the sun they returned through Wenhaston and backtracked to Lowestoft from Blyford.

Going along

Last week’s Gt Yarmouth CC time trial on the Somerleyton course attracted sixteen riders but none were riding for VCB.  James Moore, who was a VCB member last year and is now said to be joining Strada Sport, was the fastest GYCC rider with third place in 24:39.

The winner was Chris Guy of Iceni Velo with 23:13 from another VCB former member, Mark Westrup of Strada Sport (24:12).

The Godric CC event on Tuesday last week was not well attended because of the weather.  Just seven riders took part and none were from VCB.

John Thompson of VC Baracchi rode theIpswichBC 10-mile time trial.

This was on what he described as a circuit “farmyard course” that starts near Crowfield which follows lanes through Gosbeck and then a short stretch of last year’s Tour of Britain route through Framsden and then Pettaugh to the finish just before Crowfield.

Thompson was probably a little disappointed with his time of 31:49 though some of his close rivals were slower on this difficult course that includes 500 feet of climbing.

Four places above him in the finishing order was Phil Hollingsworth of East Anglian CC with 29:23, a fairly slow time for him, so it was a reassurance that Thompson was not so far adrift.

The winner was Mark Arnold (Team Pedal Revolution) in 22:59 from Steve Gorbutt of Diss & District CC (23:42) and Simon Hance of the home club (23:58), the only three over 25mph.
