Esser’s last race for VCB wins points in National Crits Champs

Nick Esser earned points and preserved his second category status in the National Masters Criterium Championships, his last race in VC Baracchi colours before switching fully to DAP CC.

This year the event was at Rockingham Raceway, a 1.5km circuit that was open & windswept in places, despite which the race was run at over 27mph.

The break

Esser said, “I sat in for the first two laps to get a judge of how fast this peloton was – all of a sudden, probably showing off to the crowd I went off the front and joined in a 6-man move that lasted the whole race.”

“I did what I could and helped push the pace but I was clearly outgunned in a move featuring elites and 1st cats. Most of the time I was hanging in and pedalling squares.”

“We nearly got caught at the end with the bunch just 10-secs behind us with one lap to go. I just held on for dear life and managed to scrape 5th place – my best all-time result in a National B event.”

Luke Rowell of VCB finished well in the bunch in the Mid Suffolk Road Race.  He rode over the line in very approximately eighteenth place, 2 mins 44 secs down on the winner Chris Crabtree (LCUK). There was a very effective break of seven riders that got away at about half distance.
