Lucas He takes second place in Norwich ABC open 10

Velo Club Baracchi rider Lucas He took second place in the Norwich ABC 10-mile time trial on the A143 and two other VCB riders in the top ten clinched the team prize.

His time was 21:26 for second place behind Nick Partridge of Plomesgate CC who achieved 20:58.

Paul Hayward, VCB’s vice chairman, continued a run of strong form with 22:05 for sixth place and Paul Dennington was the third VCB rider with 22:31.

Dennington was ninth on scratch but his ride earned him the second prize in the veterans’ competition, which is based on performance against age-related standard times.

The three of them won the team prize with their total time of 1-06:02.

Simon Scott of Anglia Velo took third place overall with 21:31 and the ladies’ winner was Jan Smith of Gt Yarmouth CC in 24:38.

VC Baracchi riders turned out in force for the following day’s Plomesgate CC 10-mile event on the Wickham Market bypass and Lucas He was in the money again with the junior prize.

Lucas was also in sixth place overall with his 21:30 ride, only four seconds adrift of his performance the day before when others went back further.

Other VCB times were Hayward 22:57, Dennington 23:12, Alex He 24:55, Paul Reed 25:12 and Richard Allen 29:17.

The top times were Joe Spaulding (Ipswich BC) 20:24, Andy Proffitt (Ipswich BC) 20:28, Mark Richards (DAP CC) 20:35 and Matt O’Brien (Plomesgate CC) 20:55. Richards is also a second claim VCB member.

Local rider Denise Hurren of Sole Bay Cycle Sport found herself unexpectedly unopposed on the day for the ladies’ prize but rode strongly just the same to record 24:07.
