New rider Ing impresses on the club run

Velo Club Baracchi’s Sunday rides were lightly attended but the 9am ride was notable for the participation of a new rider.

When Alan Ing of Beccles heard from a club member at a spinning class that there was a ride that might suit him he probably didn’t bargain for a 55-mile distance.

Ing, Womack, Rainton and Swanbury

A one-time member of Lowestoft Wheelers, he had not been into club cycling for some years but he really impressed the other riders with his ability and tenacity.

Not, of course, that Ing would in any circumstances have been left behind!

The club’s reliability trial enthusiast, John Thompson, was disappointed on his trip to the East Anglian CC event to find on arrival in Norwich that his bike had a mechanical problem that could not be fixed, so he was unable to take part.

Chris Womack is looking to start his time trial season this Saturday in the CC Breckland 10-mile event.

One of the club’s most enthusiastic veterans, Womack has had more time to train since his recent retirement from work, so he may do even better this season than last.

Two of the Strada RT riders who formerly rode for VC Baracchi were in a party from their team who went to the Hog Hill road racing circuit in London.  Mark Westrup survived the race and finished, though not in the top places.  Nick Esser broke his chain and had to pull out after riding most of the race.
