Partridge beats Matthews in Godric 10

Velo Club Baracchi rider Nick Partridge squeaked a deserved win in the Godric CC club 10 last week, beating Harley Matthews of DAP CC by two seconds with a 20:54 ride.

Other VCB times were Stuart Supple 23:17, Alex He 25:02, Mark Womack 27:02, Francesca Dixon-Grant 28:11, Jodie Lee 31:59 and John Swanbury and Kate Churchill (tandem) 23:56.

Partridge wen on to achieve a good ride in 21:46 in Anglia Velo’s open 10 at Earsham on Saturday, despite a dropped chain.

VCB’s Paul Hayward and Chris Womack achieved 22:23 and 25:51 respectively.  Womack described a swirling wind both ways but sunny, hot and dry.

Stuart Fairweather of Team VeloVelocity won in 19:57, with Matt O’Brien of Plomesgate CC second in 20:49 and Jorge Vieira of Team Pedal Revolution third in 21:09. Rebecca of Johnson Brothers.UK Fusion RT (23:03) was fastest lady.    

Chris Womack of VCB “suffered” to achieve 2-17:32 in Sunday’s Godric CC open 50 up and down the A143 with turns at Stockton and Needham.

In sunshine and a hot and dry wind the top three were Ben Stancombe (Team VeloVelocity) 1-45:20 (course record), John Bradbury o (CC Sudbury) 1-53:18 and Phil Marler (Godric CC) 1-57:31.  Becky Taylor of Wisbech Wheelers lowered the ladies’ course record to 2-02:51.

Paul Wright rode 100-mile Gran Fondo at Peterborough, with 2,680 feet of elevation gain, in 4 hours 56 minutes.

In the Mud Sweat & Gears (Round 5) of MTB racing at Thickthorn, VCB results were Francesca Dixon-Grant 5th in the open female category, Stephen Dixon-Grant 39th out of 59 (open male) and Josh Peck 14th (youth male).

Mark Womack of VCB achieved 27:42 in the Gt Yarmouth CC club 10. Top was Jonny Hawes of GYCC (24:54).

VCB’s Kate Churchill and Ian Reid rode the Asparagus and Strawberries 400km Audax from Manningtree, with a strong tailwind headwind north via Ixworth, Halesworth, Acle to Wells on the North Norfolk coast, covering the first 200km in a little over 7 hours at an average speed of 18 mph.

After a return via Saffron Walden on a warm night they arrived in just 19 hours with some 16.5 hours on the bike at an overall moving speed of 15.8 mph. Both are now qualified for Paris-Brest-Paris in August.

John Thompson of VCB continued to work on audax routes he is planning for CC Breckland, with 45-mile and 80-mile rides over the weekend plus a train journey to one of them.
