Summons improves and so also do the tandem pair

Steve Summons of Velo Club Baracchi shaved another five seconds off his personal best on the Godric CC 10-mile time trial on Tuesday last week, with 25:04.

Jenny Anderson rode well with 26:25, but it was not quite as fast as the week before. Perhaps the extra headwind compared with the week before accounted for the extra nineteen seconds.

On the tandem, John Swanbury and Ali Banks built on their ride of the previous week to record a new personal best for the pairing of 22:46, which was a 20-second improvement.

The top rider in the event, Jim Burgess, pulled off a 21:24 ride. In joint second place were Will Bamber of VC Norwich and Iain Robertson of Tri-Anglia who each achieved 22:20.

Then on Thursday in the Gt Yarmouth CC 10-mile time trial at Somerleyton, a slower course, Anderson achieved 27:34 and fellow VCB member Anthony Potts recorded 32:09.

James Trenchard of Godric CC took the win with 24:25 from Peter Hargreaves of Strada Sport RT, second with 24:43.

Juvenile VCB member Josh Womack was the sole taker for the 5-mile version of the course and his time was 22:34.

John Thompson, who has been disappointed with his 25-mile results this season was glad to beat “evens” with a 1-14:18 ride in the Finsbury Park CC open event .

This was on the A1 road from Tempsford, heading south to the Sandy roundabout and then north to the Buckden roundabout before heading south to finish on the Tempsford bypass.

Thompson observed that this version of the course includes some significant hills and there was a headwind finish on the day.

Trevor Burke of the Finchley Road Team had the power and technique to ignore such factors and won the event in 52:46.

Mike Rainton had been expected to ride the CC Breckland 12-hour event but was one of the non-starters.

Early reports were that Andrew Wilkinson of Port Sunlight Wheelers covered 317.9 miles in this event, which is about 16 miles further than Nik Bowdler of Team PedalRevolution.co.uk rode to win the national championship.

On the day it seems Rainton preferred the café in Nicholas Everitt Park.

A number of VC Baracchi riders took part in the Suffolk Coast ride from Glemham Hall organised by Bike Events. Riders on the VCB club run, which paused for a cuppa in Dunwich, saw many of the participants in this 60-mile ride, as they were often heading in the opposite direction.
