VCB Reliability – 50 miles

Velo Club Baracchi ‘s 50-mile reliability rides from Oulton Community centre went very well on Sunday, with 40 riders from a number of clubs.

The 4-hour group attracted four from Rock Estate and three VCB members and they took less time than that to finish.

The three-and-a-half-hour section comprised seven from VCB, thirteen from Gt Yarmouth CC and a variety of others, making twenty-seven in all and they went at an even faster pace.

Riding quickly through the field after setting off last, the 3-hour group comprised six racing men from DAP CC.

John Thompson organised the event and was pleased with the record turn-out.  He was helped on the day by Ray and Sandy Skipper, who were at the finish with refreshments.

The traditions of these winter events seem to be largely forgotten and they are enjoyed in a different way.  The dry day tempted out many riders on fast summer road bikes instead of winter bikes with mudguards and a little racing spirit was clearly evident.

Most riders completed the ride, which was down to Halesworth, across to Homersfield and back through Flixton, Bungay, Stockton and St Olaves, finishing in Oulton Broad opposite St Mark’s.

A 100km version will take place on January 20.
