Four VCB riders in Wolsey Road Club 25; Lucas He fastest of them

The Wolsey Road Club’s open 25-mile time trial based at Wortwell on Sunday attracted an entry of seventy-two riders including twenty-seven ladies.

Top Velo Club Baracchi rider was again Lucas He, who won the junior prize with 56:04 with the fifth-fastest time of the day.

Other VCB times were Paul Hayward 1-02:26, Alex He 1-04:11 and John Swanbury 1-07:13.

Stuart Fairweather of Team VeloVelocity won in 53:12, from his club-mate Ben Stancombe with 54:03, Matt O’Brien (Plomesgate CC) 55:18 and Sam Proctor (Ride Harder) 56:03.

Joe Skipper (Team Skipper) rode in 54:05 but under the regulations he was given a DNF as he failed to sign in again afterwards.

A new women’s course record of 1-00:33 was set by Amy Pritchard of Giant Camden Team Liv, last year’s winner, who had on this occasion brought by minibus twelve other club members.  She took

She won the Pat Pepper Memorial Trophy, presented to her by Mick Pepper.  Becky Murley of Wisbech Wheelers CC was second in 1-01:03 with Verity Smith of Stowmarket & District CC third in 1-03:29 and Cindy Berry of Pedal Power Cycles Ipswich fourth in 1-03:52.

Other prizes were for age categories and Roger Sewell of Wisbech Wheelers CC was particularly quick with 1-00:26 to win the age 70-74 prize.  Team VeloVelocity won the team prize.

On the previous Tuesday Lucas he stormed to victory in the 22-rider Diss CC club 10 with 21:35 on their potentially slower Brockdish circuit version of the course.

His father Alex also rode well with 25:01 for eighth place.  Second place went to Simon Scott of Anglia Velo with 23:31, delayed by a mechanical issue and the third rider was Nick Partridge of Plomesgate CC in 23:38.

Mark Saunders of VCB took third place in Godric CC’s club 10-mile time trial with 22:44. Partridge won this in 22:08 with Andrew Taylor of VC Norwich second in 22:11.  Eighteen rode.
