Godric reliability; Time trials to start with CC Breckland

Lowestoft cyclists have been taking advantage of the wonderfully warm spell of weather, some riding the Godric CC 100km reliability trial.

John Thompson, who entered, was disappointed to puncture not long after setting off and he abandoned after soon afterwards.

Others including VC Baracchi second-claim members had a better time. SAP CC’s Mark Richards and Liam Gentry were in the 3-hour group and Somerrleyton-based rider Jenny Anderson of Gt Yarmouth CC rode in the 3.5 hour group.

Alex He and Chris Womack also had a good ride that incorporated the course, the official route of which was from Ditchingham into Bungay, then through Flixton, Wortwell, Metfield, Halesworth, Shadingfield, Beccles, Haddiscoe, Hales and Stubbs Green back to Ditchingham.

This Saturday the CC Breckland 10-mile open time trial will place on a course to the west of Hingham, using the B1108.

If all the VCB riders who have entered can attend there will be four from the club, including new member Nick Partridge, formerly of Plomesgate CC, who is looking forward to his first ride for the club.

The others are Paul Hawward, Chris Womack and John Swanbury.

Interest in the Beccles Cycle for Life charity ride on May 12 is already picking up, with entries through the event website becclescycleforlife.org.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Beccles and now coming of age in its eighteenth year, the event with a variety of distances to suit every rider, is in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Rotary club’s charitable trust in equal shares.

This year the riders have the option of creating a JustGiving page if they wish to help further by being sponsored.

VC Baracchi’s Saturday leisure rides from Tandem Steve’s Cycles in the High Street are now accepting young riders aged 14 and over.

The necessary parental consent forms and further details are at the shop, with information about the rides also on the Velo Club Baracchi and  Tandem Steve’s Cycles Facebook pages.
