Improved weather, club run and leisure ride

Improved weather tempted out local riders last week and on Sunday they found many groups of cyclists on the Suffolk roads.

Velo Club Baracchi’s club run took place at 8.30am as usual from the Cotmer Road roundabout and a party of riders went to the café in Middleton.

The club’s new leisure ride also went ahead, setting off from Tandem-Steve’s Cycles in the High Street with ride leaders to give guidance in group riding.

These rides are every Saturday at 9.15am and suit every kind of rider, as nobody will be left behind.  The object is to help more people enjoy cycling in company.

The weekday rides by a group of friends dubbed “the Wrinklies” that take place on Tuesdays and Fridays from Carlton Colville have also been well attended.

These are not club-based but many of the riders are also members of VCB and distances ridden are usually about 40 miles or so.

John Thompson of VCB, one of the club’s audax enthusiasts, reported on a disappointment in the Victoria CC event, when his gear cable broke at just eight miles into the event, so he thought it wise to return.  It was a pity on such a nice day.

He had had a more successful ride on the Thursday, putting in a bit more work on getting the route and distance right for an audax he will be promoting.

He rode via Uggeshall, Halesworth, Walpole and Peasenhall to Saxted Green and spent some care sorting out a slightly shorter route to Brundish, then Stradbroke and again The Good, The Bad and The Hungry cafe at Wingfield, returning with just under 70 miles recorded.
