Good weather tempts the VCB riders out

Some good weather days have allowed local cyclists to get out into the country for leisure and training.

Velo Club Baracchi riders Chris Womack and Paul Dennington went on Christmas Eve for a spin by the usual club run route down to Halesworth, through Wissett to Rumburgh, then Homersfield, Flixton and the Earsham Street Bungay café.

They returned by the valley route past Ellingham Mill, Gillingham, Beccles, Hulver and home; 48 miles at 17.4 average.

On Sunday John Thompson rode via Stoven and Uggeshall to Wenhaston where he did a little ‘fine tuning’ for the route of his “Silly Suffolk” audax for next year.

Intending to take photos for a transport newsletter to which he contributes, he rode to Brampton Station, knowing there was a nice rural scene with horses from the trains as they approach/leave Brampton.

As luck would have it, at Brampton he found he had forgotten his phone and then rode via Weston to Posh Pigs on the way home.  There he saw VCB member with Paul Reed with a group of about ten riders and also saw John Swanbury on the road home.

Thompson decided to do the photography on Tuesday and incorporated Brampton Station into his ride.

He said, “It was a keen headwind to Brampton but in the sunshine it felt really good to be out in the fresh air exercising after all the Christmas Day loafing.”

Thompson has organised 50-mile reliability rides for the club on Sunday January 14 from Oulton Community Centre:  4 hours 8.30am, 3.5 hours 9.00am, 3 hours 9.30am.
