Partridge new VCB 25-mile champion

Last Tuesday’s Godric CC club 25-mile time trial, VCB’s 25-mile championship also took place, won by Nick Partridge with an impressive 53:39. 

Other VCB times were Mark Saunders 57:26, Paul Hayward 58:43, Paul Dennington 59:07, Stuart Supple 1-00:10, Paul Wright 1-00:30, Alex He 1-04:34, Mark Womack 1-10:29 and Francesca Dixon-Grant 1-13:47 (VCB’s new ladies’ champion).

On the tandem, John Swanbury and Kate Churchill achieved 1-01:45.  Fastest was Joe Skipper of Team Skipper in 50:51 with Mark Richards of DAP CC second in 53:07.

In Saturday’s windy Anglia Velo open 10 from Morley, Partridge achieved 20:35 and third place on veteran age standard.  Dennington’s time was 22:44.

The scratch winner was Lloyd Chapman of Plomesgate CC in 19:56. Denise Hurren of Team VeloVelocity won for the ladies in 23:49.  Plomesgate CC won the team prize.

In Gt Yarmouth CC’s club 10, VCB times were Dennington 24:18, Billy Girling 25:43, Josh Peck 25:56 and Richard Allen 30:03.  Jonny Hawes of the home club was quickest in 23:59.

In VC Baracchi’s Ringsfield Road race on Sunday, many club members helped with the event and four others rode in the fifty-plus field.

Paul Wright, Steve Dixon-Grant, Keith Wink and Alex He rode. The first three finished safely in the bunch and Alex He also completed the event.

Zac Herrod of University of Derby CC took the win by well over a minute, with Liam Gentry of DAP CC and Chris Guy of Iceni Velo both just clear of the chasing bunch in second and third places.

Ian Reid completed the “Kingdom of the East Saxons” 400km Audax from Great Dunmow, which featured a figure-of-eight loop around Essex, including a welcome café stop in Harwich on the first loop. After following the Essex ‘Sunshine Coast’ via Clacton the first loop ended at Dunmow for a candlelit dinner.

The second loop, south to Billericay and Burnham-on-Crouch included the classic hill-climb ascent of North Hill in Little Baddow. With a strong tailwind for some of the first section Reid completed the route in under 21 hours. Kate Churchill had completed the ride the previous weekend in order to help at the Dunmow control on the day of the event.

John Thompson rode the “Suffolk Lanes Extravaganza” 210km Audax in 12 hours and 20 minutes from Bildeston, includingWalsham Le Willows, Halesworth, Iken, Orford, Chillesford, Framlingham, Wilby and Middlewood Green.

He received just one brief soaking near Peasenhall.
