Santas cyclo-cross in Broome Heath Scramble

Velo Club Baracchi’s second-claim member Tim Bonnett rode the Broome Heath Scramble in a Santa Claus outfit over his Iceni Velo club kit.

The eventual winner

So did Ben Nicholson, another Iceni Velo rider with Lowestoft roots and together they added a big splash of colour to the racing.

This event, previously staged by VCB, was well run by Iceni Velo and further enhanced by another Father Christmas on the finish line, very like the real one.

Some of the serious business

The race for elite, junior, senior and veteran riders was won by senior rider Andrew Nichols of PCA Ciclos Uno from elite veteran Philip Roach of Rugby Velo and Tim Guy of Iceni Velo.

Ben Nicholson finished in 17th place the other Santa, Tim Bonnett, proved to be distinctly out-of-training and out-of-form, finishing in 40thplace.

Clive Bond of Gt Yarmouth CC finished in 35th place and Stuart Burdett, a GYCC senior rider who was once a VCB junior, was 43rd.

There is the CC Breckland New Year’s Day open 10-mile time trial to look forward to, for some VCB riders.

Meanwhile John Thompson reports that he ventured out on the roads despite a frosty start and by way of a change he rode north, and having reached Gt Yarmouth via Lound and Bradwell he rode by way of Caister to Potter Heigham, then exploring some unfamiliar territory, including lanes around Ludham with no signposts.

Like other cyclists, he either avoided the icy roads altogether or went very warily on them.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
