Looking forward to the New Year

Velo Club Baracchi riders are looking forward with enthusiasm to the new season’s competition.

For some this will start with their own pattern of training and club runs.  Others will look forward to the early Spring reliability trials.

John Thompson has arranged two of these for VC Baracchi from the Oulton Community Centre.

The 50-mile ride is on Sunday January 15 and the 100km on Sunday February 5, with different start times for the various target speeds.

Apart from the New Year’s Day 10-mile time trial organised by CC Breckland, the first event of the year remotely near our area is the Ely & District CC “Hardriders” 25-mile time on February 12 from Little Downham.

The emphasis within the club will be on time trials this year, as the club’s three best road racers will be in Strada RT colours except for time trials, when they will ride for the club.

This might enable the club reports to give more prominence to its successful women time trial riders and also to the veterans, whose achievements have sometimes been less prominently mentioned.

However VC Baracchi is always looking to rejuvenate new members are welcome.  The membership forms on this website will shortly be updated but in the meantime can be used by just amending the year, as all details of current membership fees are unchanged.

John Thompson reports that he was out on Christmas morning for a short ride and it’s good to know that he at least was working up an appetite for lunch.

This involved a spin into the Raveningham and Toft Monks areas, returning via St Olaves on a mild and sunny morning which made him feel that on any other day he would have gone for a “good long bash.”
