Womack foiled in the CC Breckland New Year Ten

Chris Womack of Velo Club Baracchi was unlucky in his New Year’s Day time trial ride in the CC Breckland event.

All started badly and continued in that vein, with mechanical problems.

Womack was 17 seconds late at the start and missed his slot.  Once under way his saddle tilted forward and as a result of the bad position and the bumpy road his tri-bars followed suit, leading him to abandon before the half-way turn.

Disappointed, he said, “I was really looking forward to having a good ride with my new wheels.”

The event was won by Stuart Pryce of Nottingham Clarion who will be one of Liam Gentry and Nick Esser’s colleagues in their new road race team. His time was 21:29, over a minute quicker than second-placed Mark Solley of Diss.

Chris Nudds of CC Breckland was the veteran winner on standard with +7:39 (i.e. faster than his age-related standard time by that amount) and the fastest rider with a fixed gear was Mark Elmy of Godric CC with 23:03.  Natasha Morrison of RLS CC in the Midlands won for the ladies in 24:02.
