A dry day for the VC Baracchi club run

A dry day encouraged six riders to take part in Velo Club Baracchi’s Sunday club run and enjoy a round trip of just over 40 miles through St Olaves, Loddon and Bungay.

Chris Womack, Paul Reed, Alex He, Paul Dennington, Lucas He and John Swanbury took part and five of them included a café stop at the Earsham Street Café.

It is the time of year for testing café food but also for getting in the miles, which some say should be “quality miles,” meaning those ridden at the right pace for training.

The first opportunity to test their quality will come in the CC Breckland open time trial on New Year’s Day and VCB will be well represented.

A week previously John Thompson, who took part in “The Stansted Airport Express” 101 km Audax on Saturday.

From its base at the Witham Wetherspoons the route took him to Great Leighs at 12km, Matching Green at 37km, Thremhall Park at 52km (next to airport runway, hence event name), Thaxted at 69km and back to Witham.

He said, “I finished in a little over 6 hours.  Next year, being more familiar with the route, hopefully I will slip under.  It was a wet ride, with steady rain most of the time, but the wind was not particularly troublesome.”

Thompson also had a local ride on the Sunday, getting in about 50 miles and it featured Sunday roast and dessert of apple and caramel crumble bake with custard at Wrentham on the return run after a good tailwind from the Laxfield area.

This week he rode out to measure some distances for a new Audax ride he is planning to promote.  Thompson also indulged in more comfort food, this time reporting favourably on “The Good, The Bad and The Hungry” cafe at Wingfield.
